Fix a problem

Find what you see on screen, then follow the short fix.

Find what you see below. Each fix takes a few clicks.

Next stays grey

A box is empty, or a name has a character SLAN does not allow.

  1. Fill every box with a red *. On Syllabus, paste some text.
  2. Use only letters, numbers, spaces, hyphens and underscores in names.
  3. "Finance-101" works. "Finance 101: Valuation" does not.

Cannot create cohort

A class with a join code cannot hold a Private course or a Private tutor.

  1. Open your course from the Courses tab. Click Overview, then Edit Course.
  2. Set Access Level to Registration Code. Click Save Changes.
  3. Open your tutor. Under Access Control, set it to Registration Code too.
  4. Create the cohort again.

Deploy is grey

You are still editing, or there is nothing new to publish.

  1. Click Save changes to leave edit mode.
  2. Make a change and save it.
  3. When a bar says your changes are saved, click Deploy now.

Students see an old version

You changed files or frameworks, and students have not received the update.

  1. Open your course from the Courses tab. Find the banner Your assistants are out of date.
  2. Click Sync Now and wait.
  3. A box asks about deploying. Click Deploy All.

A file has a clock or a red mark

A clock means SLAN has not processed the file yet. Red means processing failed. Finished files show no mark.

  1. On Files, click Sync Files.
  2. Wait until Processing... goes away.
  3. Still red? Upload the file again, or write to hello@slan.co.

A student cannot join

The message tells you why.

  1. "Invalid Group ID or registration code": the code has a typo. Copy it again from Registration Code on your cohort.
  2. "This group is private; you must be invited (by email) to register." Add their email under Members. They sign up with that email.
  3. "Email ... is already registered": they have an account. They sign in, open My Access, click + Join Cohort and enter the code.

A student was added but never got an email

SLAN sends no invitation email.

  1. Copy the Registration Code from your cohort.
  2. Send it to your student yourself.
  3. Point them to the student guide.

The widget does not appear

Your page's domain does not match Allowed Domains. The chat then says "This widget is not configured to work on this website."

  1. Open your widget and check Allowed Domains.
  2. Type only the plain domain, like example.com. Skip https:// and stars.
  3. Test on the live page, not a file on your computer.

A framework will not delete

A stage of a Multi stage tutor uses it. SLAN keeps it and shows Could not delete framework, which names the stage.

  1. Open your tutor, then Stages, then the stage that uses it.
  2. Under Related Frameworks, click Select Frameworks and untick it. Click Update Stage.
  3. Click Save changes, then Deploy. Delete the framework again.
